Antenex® in Antarctica 02/03

click to enlarge Heights, IL. - The Antenex® Fiberglass Omnidirectional antenna long known for its ability to withstand the rigors of North American weather extremes is now in service in Antarctica. Jeff Otten is the Science Technician at Palmer Station Antarctica. He is one of 40 people in this remote settlement located six hundred miles from the wind swept and rocky tip of South America. Jeff reports Antenex model FG4603 is the transmitting antenna for Palmer's GPS Continuously Operating Reference Station. He says the Antenex antenna does well in this environment which combines salt water corrosion with the extremes of antarctic temperatures and wind loading. The photos taken during the Antarctic summer show the Antenex® antenna on Palmer T-5 Building with Marr Glacier in the background. The face of the glacier rises to 150 feet in the picture. Further inland it is 2,000 feet thick. Antenex® customers for Fiberglass Omnidirectional antennas include Motorola, Inc., Siemens AG, Federal Signal Corporation & Symbol Technologies. For your base station antenna requirements you can choose Antenex® antennas with full confidence in their ability to perform under all extremes.
